As the Thanksgiving holiday draws near, Mark's class reflects on things that they are thankful for and family traditions that pop up during the season...

  1. Hello! This is Gabe. :o)

One of our family traditions for Thanksgiving is that every year I go to my Grandpa's house. He gets a very large squash and then he cuts it up and we call it "The cutting of the squash". We make soup or pie or something yummy and we eat it with our Thanksgiving meal.

Our Thanksgiving meal has turkey and ham, and my grandma makes mashed potatoes and cheese bisquits. We also have pumpkin pie, cherry pie, blueberry pie and pecan pie.

I love Thanksgiving because I get to spend time with all of my family and there is a lot of good food. :o)

  2. Hello, this is Jordan!

For Thanksgiving I go to both my mom's and my dad's house. That means I get to eat two dinners. I like going to both because it means my tummy is super full the next day. We eat turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and sometimes fruit salad. For dessert we have pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I usually just play and wait for the dinner to be served while my parents cook.

We don't really have any family tradition, but if I could have one I would like to be able to travel somewhere to eat.

  3. Hello, this is Zakiyah!

For Thanksgiving my family and I make "twists". We are all vegetarian and so we have to be creative with our meal. "Twists" are made to be sort of like ribs. They have peanut butter, gluten, cayene pepper, paprika, thyme and other spices. It is then cooked and barbecue sauce is put over the top of it. We also have tofu, macaroni, and a lot of pies. We have pumpkin, peach and apple pies!

Our tradition is that we always spend the holiday with my grandma and I get to drink sparkling cider out of a fancy wine glass. I love Thanksgiving because I get to help cook all the food, and then I get to eat the beautiful creation I made! :o)

  4. Hello! This is Miles!

For Thanksgiving my dad and I will go to Martinas, California. My aunt and uncle live there and it is near San Fransisco. We will leave today after school, and we will get back later this weekend. It is a fun drive because I really like to see California and I like to stop in Davis. We usually stop and bicycle there and we stop at Corning and go to the Olive Pit, which is a cafe that serves a lot of different kinds of olives and food.

For our Thanksgiving meal we have mashed potatoes and gravy, turkey and cranberry sauce. I am not a big fan of the gravy.

I am excited for this Thanksgiving because I get to see my cousins from Wisconsin, and I haven't gotten to see them in a while.

  5. Hello! This is Milan!

Our family's Thanksgiving tradition is that every Thanksgiving we invite my grandma and grandpa and my uncle to dinner. The day after Thanksgiving we relax and prepare for the Oregon State Civil War, which is a football game that includes the Ducks and Beavers playing against each other. But this year is different because the game is Friday instead of Saturday.

We eat the classic Thanksgiving dinner. We have turkey, peas, mashed potatoes, and my favorite....pumpkin pie! :o) I watch t.v. while I wait for dinner to be served.

I love Thanksgiving because I get to see all of my family and have fun and eat lots of my favorite foods! :)

  6. Hello! This is Kane. :o)

For Thanksgiving we will have a family dinner with me, my dad and my sister. Dad will make chicken, macaroni and cheese, ham, salad, and for dessert we have pumpkin pie. I help make a little bit of the dinner. My favorite thing to make is fried chicken. After dinner I usually help clean up and do dishes and then my sister and I will play.

Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday, but I do love that Christmas is just around the corner. :o)
