Our Class Trip to Bandon, Oregon...

Our class will be heading to Bandon, Oregon tomorrow for a three day camping trip to include both of the 5th grade classes of Helman Elementary.  We will be studying the tides, the tide pools, and the South Slough of the Oregon Coast.  The students and chaperones will be staying in yurts or tents, and we have an amazing mom stepping up to help cater the entire trip!  ;o)

  1. Hello! This is Milan :o)

Tomorrow morning at seven thirty we are meeting at our school to leave for Bandon. We are going to study about tides and the ocean animals while we are there. We will be staying in yurts and some people will be staying in tents.

I am really looking forward to the campouts and having s'mores. I am not looking forward to studying. :o) I am excited to have fun with my friends. I go to the ocean a lot, and I love to watch the waves come in. I am looking forward to learning more about the tides.

I am going to miss out on two soccer practices, but it will be worth it to go on this trip.

  2. Hello! My name is Tae :o)

During our trip to Bandon we will go explore tide pools for about two hours. We will be trying to find the different creatures that are living there. Then we will head to our campsite. We will unpack and make our beds, because we will be staying two nights over there. We are camping in yurts. Yurts are kind of like big tents, but they are made out of wood and have electricity. They have several beds in there to sleep a lot of people and heaters to keep us warm.

We are going to have a huge campfire and roast marshmallows. On Wednesday we will be headed to the South Slough. We have been working on clues for the last two weeks to help us figure out what kind of animals live there. The Slough is where the fresh water from streams and rivers mixes with the salt water from the ocean. Only some creatures can survive here, such as the marvelous otter.

I am most looking forward to getting to check out the sea anemones. I am least looking forward to the boys possibly pranking us.

  3. Hello! This is Kane.

I am excited to learn a lot about tide pools and the animals who live in the uplands. I am not excited to be so busy all the time. There won't be a lot of down time to just relax and draw. Most of the day will be spent learning and studying.

My sister went a few years ago though, and she said she really had a great time. She said that they got to play soccer, which is one of my favorite sports!

We have to stay in small yurts, which are like igloos, but they are made out of wood. I am not a huge fan of camping because I don't like the bugs that bite. Especially in my sleep!

I am really excited to learn more about invertebrate that live there. Invertebrate are bugs or animals that don't have spines.

I am looking forward to going, because my sister has said that it was the funnest trip she has ever been on in grade school.

I am hoping we can prank the girls. :o)

  4. Hello! This is Amani :)

I am really excited to go to the beach because I have not been there in about a year. I am looking forward to learning lots of things about the ocean, and having a camp fire with the whole class. I like going in the water when it is warm outside, but it will be cold when we go so we won't want to get wet.

I am not looking forward to not being able to shower. I get to stay in a yurt, and I can't wait to sit by the warm campfire.

We will be learning about the Oregon tide pools and the creatures that inhabit them. We will also be visiting the South Slough and we have a bunch of clues that will help us track down the animals that live there.

    I am excited to go!

  5. Hello! This is Gabe :)

On our trip to Bandon I am looking forward to finding the animals that are living in the tide pools. I am excited to find hermit crabs and go camping. I get to stay in a yurt, which I am excited about because I have never stayed in a yurt before.

I am not looking forward to cold and rainy weather.

I am really excited to see the ocean because it has been a long time since I have gotten to spend a lot of time there.

  6. Hello! This is Kaila!

I am looking forward to finding out more about the tide pools and the animals that live there. I am also excited to be outdoors and camping with my friends. I will be staying in a yurt, and I am excited to do that because I have never stayed in a yurt before.

I am not looking forward to the long bus ride to get there. The ride is about 3 1/2 hours and it is going to be crazy and noisy, so sleeping is going to be impossible. We can't bring electronics, so we have to be creative in what to bring on the bus to keep up busy. I will probably do a lot of talking.

The weather is supposed to be rainy and cold. I love rainy, cold weather, so I think it will be great! The nights will be super cold though, and I am not looking forward to sleeping in such cold weather. I get to stay in a yurt though, and they usually have a heater, so it shouldn't be a problem.

  7. Hello! This is Joe :o)

I am really looking forward to looking at the tide pools and the animals that live there. I am also excited to camp, sleep in a tent, and roasting marshmallows. I don't get to stay in a yurt, but I get to stay in a big tent with a bunch of my friends. My favorite part about camping is the campfire and running around the campsite.

I am not looking forward to the first day, because it is supposed to be raining. The next two days should be good though. The bus ride is also going long and loud, and sleeping will be impossible. I am bummed we can't bring electronics, but we are going to get a new book for me to read on the bus.

We will be learning about what is happening in the tide pools, and the different tide zones that are there. The South Slough is a place we will be visiting to learn more about the different animals that live there. The Slough is where the fresh water meets the salt water from the ocean. We will learn what animals live where and which ones can live in both salt and fresh water.

My dad will be going on the trip with us, and he gets to sleep in the tent with me. He is super excited to be going as well. :o)
