Our First Week of Field Trips

  1. Hello, my name is Amani. We went to Hobart Bluff last Tuesday. It was really cold up there, and I didn't really feel like going. The bus ride was really scary because of all the twists and turns, and we were really close to the cliff on the side of the road. When we got there we got into our groups and put on our name tags and then we were off on our hike.

The weather was windy and rainy and very cold. It was really foggy up there and we saw a lot of different plants. When we got halfway up our hike we used this map to calculate how old the rocks were. Some of the rocks were 3 million years old and 150 million years old.

We had to find a spot to eat our lunch that was out of the cold weather. After lunch we had to find a certain kind of moss and look at it with a magnifying glass. It was white and spider web like. We headed back down to the bus after that and went back to school. We got to have hot chocolate when we got back to school.

I am glad I got to see all of the cool things that were up there, but the weather made it a little miserable. :)

  2. Hi my name is Asa, I live in Ashland Oregon and i am in Mark Sherbows Fifth grade class. A while ago I really have no idea how long we went to the Ashland pond. The Ashland pond is a place that a lot of people especially our class go to help the environment. Over the years our school has don tones of help around the pond. Like plant trees, dig up poisonous plants, take care of the trees, pic blackberry bushes and make the pond a great place for birds and animals to stay.
So that is the pond for you. It is almost lunch time so i well just end it here
    Sincerely Asa :D

  3. Hello! My name is Isaac. Last week we went to Hobart Bluff. The bus ride up to there was about 45 minutes and I talked to my friends to pass the time. The heater was right under my seat, so I was really, really, really hot!

When I walked off the bus I was shocked by how cold it was outside. We learned about which mountain region we were in. We were in the Cascade Siskiyou Mountains. I saw a lot of trees and meadows on our hike. The weather was cold and rainy, but I stayed warm and dry by being prepared for the weather and bringing my coat.

We learned about how old the rocks were. We made stacks of rocks by stacking the rocks according to age. The oldest rock was 350 million years old and the youngest rock was 12 million years old. We knew how old they were by using the cards we had to identify the rocks' ages and types.

I had a lot of fun, but was really cold. I was excited to get back onto the warm bus.

  4. Hi my name is Jordan I am 11 years old and our class went on a field trip to Hobart Bluff. As we got out of the bus, I observed that the weather was going to be pretty terrible and as we went on, I figured I was right. The rain and the wind were switching back and forth and both the wind and the rain were pretty powerful. As we got higher and higher it got more worse and worse. There was one time where we had to get into groups of four and all the groups were assigned with a plant and we had to see how many meters had the plant. We also had very old rocks and we stacked the rocks in a tower the bottom was the oldest and the top was the youngest. The oldest was 350 million years old and the youngest was 12 million years old. I learned a lot from Hobart Bluff, and I hope you learned a lot from this post. Thanks for reading!

    Sincerely,
    Jordan

  5. Hello! My name is Dawson. We went to Hobart Bluff last week. It was freezing cold and so foggy I couldn't see a hundred feet in front of me. We did a lot of cool activities there. We built rock towers and stacked them according to age of the rocks. We measured how many of a certain type of plant were within a couple square feet of space. We also learned a lot about animal tracks and scat.

I had a lot of fun. It was also really windy at the top. It was so windy that it felt like tons of tiny pebbles were whipping down at me, but it was just the rain coming down super fast. It was such a relief to get back on the warm bus. It was miserable weather, but we had a lot of fun.

  7. Hello! My name is Sayler and I am going to tell you about me leaving for Mexico on Wednesday!

My mom wanted to give me some culture experience and so me and my family are going to live in Mexico for six months. We are going to Quanijuato and I am really looking forward to watching the bull fighting and the mummy museum. We will go to Mexico City for Christmas. They have very cool gardens there, and lots of really old buildings.

There is a surf town outside of Puerto Vallarta that I have been going to since I was four months old, and I am excited to go visit there and do some surfing. We will be taking our travel trailer with us and leaving it in Arizona in case we want to stay in Baja for a bit. If we don't end up going to Baja, then we may stay at the Grand Canyon for a bit.

My mom and dad will home school me and my two brothers. We rented a house down there to live in while we are there. It doesn't have a pool, but it is set in a nice neighborhood high above the city.

I am excited to go, but I will miss my friends. I will keep in touch with them through skype, email, and blogging. I will have my own blog set up to keep everyone posted on my adventures.

I am excited to eat all the mexican food and this big fair that they have down there. They have music and dancing and everyone stays up super late celebrating.

    I can't wait to go!
